Hallgrimskirkja Church

This was the one landmark in Reykjavik we were all most excited to visit.  First, it is a wicked cool looking church and second, it deeply resonates with the inner geek in us that loves anything GOT or Lord of the Rings-esque.

On our first night, we stayed at the Hotel Leifur Eiriksson which was right across the street.  After a long journey from Newark battling jet lag, we needed something to keep busy before our 2PM check-in.  After a light meal at Cafe Loki, we decided to walk around the church and pay the entrance fee to the viewing observatory.  You take the elevator to the highest floor and then from there, there is an additional flight of stairs to get to the very top where you can take photos of the city.  All in all, it was a quick visit and as the saying goes...when in Rome...

By the way, this is the tallest building in Reykjavik which was super helpful as we got oriented to the city.  The few times later that day when we were a bit disoriented, and we were able to use this church as our compass to find our way back.
