Hubbys 42nd birthday & BiBap in Seoul, South Korea

For Hubby's birthday, I tried to plan a day of new experiences.  Therefore, I planned a traditional Korean lunch at Dae Na Moo Gol, a show (BiBap), and dinner at Gasiri for some live octopus.

My main gift to him though were surprise tickets to Bibap, a non-verbal, interactive musical that was something different.  While these shows have expanded outside of Seoul and into other parts of Asia, it hasn't yet reached the US so I thought it would be a fun, unique experience.  There were a few options, but I picked this one because of the description which highlighted b-boy dancing, beat boxing, and acrobatics - all things that we appreciate.

This place was easy to find and the theater itself is super small, therefore, every seat is truly a good seat.  I purchased VIP seats and paid premium prices, but realized that after going there that any seat would have been great.  So to those going in the future, I think anywhere is fine.

The show is a bit of slap stick, dancing, rapping, and singing and overall, was made up of a lot of good, clean fun.  I was a little nervous in the beginning because I was afraid it might be too childish, but thankfully, it wasn't.  While there were a lot of kinda corny moments, they were actually executed well and  funny.  The actors all did a great job and fulfilled their roles beautifully.  The show had us both laughing out loud at times and we would recommend it, especially at the less expensive seat options.

"BIBAP is a nonverbal performance based on the Korean representative dish, bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and beef). As a nonverbal performance, the actors mimic the sound of making bibimbap with beat-boxing and a cappella, demonstration of motions through b-boying, and acrobatics and martial arts. Since its debut in 2009, BIBAP has been staged and well-received at food conferences as well as global venues like the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Today, it is heralded as the pioneer of a new culture code, EATertainment, the combination of eating and entertainment."

After the show, we headed to Gasiri for some fresh octopus.
