Final vacation meal at "French Soul Food" in San Francisco

For our final meal, Hubby did some research and discovered a great breakfast joint about 10 blocks from our hotel.  We walked away from the JW Marriott in Union Square into the Tenderloin District, unaware that it is the heart of where the homeless reside.  We passed by folks with overflowing shopping carts of junk, a  woman sitting on the floor going through her garbage bag of personal belongings, a few small clusters of men squatting on corners, and an couple of older men picking through trash.  After a bit of research, I found that they even offer a homeless tour through this area (proceeds go to the shelter you visit)

It was unsettling and a reality I didn't want to see on my last day.  We were approached by one person who seemed harmless, but was otherwise undisturbed as we made our way to breakfast.  I will admit, it took a bit for me to shake off the guilt and pity I felt for these folks.

I feel selfish in admitting that I did finally relax once we were safely at Brenda's and I enjoyed our final meal.  It was a bit of New Orleans in San Francisco with homemade jam, cheese grits and other yummy goodness.
